GAUFRAGE

GAUFRAGE is a method of embossing a plain-woven fabric with a hot pressure cylinder. The depth and sharpness of the design will depend on the fabric being used. Cotton velvets, smooth wools and silks will display a subtle, superficial design, whereas silk and mohair velvets will display a deeper and sharper impression. The effect will soften over some years if the fabric is for seating.  However, it will remain intact if it is for walling or curtains. If gaufrage is done on a synthetic velvet, it will melt the embossed areas and be indelible.

Northcroft offers a Gaufrage service where any of their velvets can be embossed with a minimum order of 5m. There are quite a few designs to choose from, varying from very traditional to much more contemporary patterns. Please enquire if you would like to know more about this service.
